Sonda Victorious in Battle of the Bands

Date Released - 14/02/2024

SONDA, an exciting new band formed by friends at Droylsden Academy, emerged victorious at Tameside’s regional heat of Battle of the Bands held at the Stalybridge New Labour Club.

Their performance not only won over the audience with their unique brand of garage punk, but also the evening’s judge and head of Tameside Music Service, Kate Campbell-Green.

Cllr Bill Fairfoull, Tameside Council’s executive member for children and families, said: “Well done to Sonda who are clearly continuing Droylsden’s fine musical traditions.

“They brought the house down at a fantastic event jam-packed with talent and with a wonderful turn-out from the audience to support all the musicians involved.

“Sonda clearly have the ability to go far. I wish them the very best of luck when they represent Tameside  in the grand final next month.”

Kate Campbell-Green added: “We were bowled over by the incredible talent displayed by all bands at the regional heat. However, Sonda brought their A-game on the night with their electric stage presence.

“At Tameside Music Service we are dedicated to creating a vibrant music scene where all emerging talent can access incredible opportunities like Battle of the Bands and we are thrilled to see bands like Sonda coming through in our area.”

Sonda’s success confirmed their place in the grand final at Manchester Academy 2 on Sunday, March 17, when they will represent Tameside against the winners from Greater Manchester’s other nine boroughs to be regional Battle of the Bands champions.

The winners will receive a day’s worth of recording time at the prestigious Spirit Studios in Manchester.
